SOME AFRICAN PROVERBS AND THEIR MEANINGS

A proverb is a simple, short well-known statement that gives advice or expresses a perceived truth based on common sense or experience. In other words, a proverb is a traditional saying that expresses something which is generally true. African societies share different traditons and values in common, that is why they have similar proverbs although they don't have similar languages. This means, the same proverbs can exist in more than one language because people borrow them from languages and cultures which resembles theirs. The following are some of the African proverbs and their meanings; 1. ”Teeth do not see poverty”. Kannywood movie review; Tsakaninmu

The Kannywood's popular producer-director duo, Abubakar Bashir Maishadda and Ali Nuhu, often tell stories of 'a rich boy Vs poor girl' in their films. Their new release, Tsakaninmu , also narrates the same tale but through a wide plot with exciting intricacy. Fahad (Umar M. Sharif), the son of a business tycoon Alh. Rabi'u (Nura Hussaini), is deeply in love with a poor daughter, Nafisa (Maryam Yahaya). He later parts from her for Rumaisa (Maryam booth), a daughter of his father's old friend Professor Tahir (Ali Nuhu), to fulfill his father's wish. Rumaisa studies abroad. She marries Fahad after her return but the marriage fails. Fahad divorces her as she is highly westernized and thus, unable to uphold her traditional marital responsibilities, among other things. The word ‘Henna' is commonly used to refer to a flowering plant that is very important in the production of medicines, besides the ornamental purpose it serves for women who use the powder from its leaves to make beautiful drawings on their skin. In Hausa Language, the whole plant is called Lalle,  so  its leaves are called.
