A proverb is a simple, short well-known statement that gives advice or expresses a perceived truth based on common sense or experience. In other words, a proverb is a traditional saying that expresses something which is generally true. African societies share different traditons and values in common, that is why they have similar proverbs although they don't have similar languages. This means, the same proverbs can exist in more than one language because people borrow them from languages and cultures which resembles theirs. The following are some of the African proverbs and their meanings; 1. ”Teeth do not see poverty”. The Kannywood's popular producer-director duo, Abubakar Bashir Maishadda and Ali Nuhu, often tell stories of 'a rich boy Vs poor girl' in their films.
